Serena Ma, ND, MS, LAc
I’m Dr. Serena. I started my practice in 2007, and I can’t believe how quickly it has gone by! I feel so lucky to support my patients through all stages of their lives and treasure those whom I have known for many years. I love being there for my patients during those crossroads in life, whether it’s dealing with fertility, undergoing cancer treatment, handling a loss, starting a new job here in New York City, or just trying to survive.
I see all types of patients with all types of health issues - however have a personal interest in women’s health, fertility (men + women), and anything microbiome related, which is basically everything. I love the human body and am constantly learning how to optimize health. I graduated with honors with an undergraduate degree in Human Physiology from Boston University’s Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation. After college, I was a research assistant at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston doing work in Sleep Medicine and the circadian rhythm. Then, I attended Bastyr University and graduated with both a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine (ND) in 2006 and Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MSAOM) in 2007. During medical school, I received special training in oncology and dermatology.
My favorite role as a naturopath is ‘doctor as teacher’. It is my job to teach my patients how their body works - and of course, how to treat it well. For a couple of years, I even taught Biochemistry at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York.
I am a licensed naturopathic physician in the state of Vermont (while I eagerly await for licensure in New York). In New York state, I am licensed as an acupuncturist. I am a professional member of the New York Association of Naturopathic Physicians (NYANP).
I live in Brooklyn with my partner and my son. I love New York City and its people for its culture and diversity, yet I treasure spending time outdoors in nature. Whenever possible, I try to get outdoors on a hiking trail, but most likely, I’m at a ball field cheering for my son and his team.
I see patients weekdays except Tuesdays. I’m also in on Sundays.
